I left Beloit after the summer term of 1971 for a work term in Massachusetts & a vacation term (also work) in San Francisco. I transferred to Cornell in 1972. Did various jobs along the way, spent a year in Case Western Reserve Medical School, taught high school science in Philadelphia. After a first brief marriage to Abby Ruder (Beloit '74), my wife Wendy Osterweil & I went to grad school at U of Wisconsin-Madison. Returned to Philly in 1988, completed the PhD in English (composition/rhetoric) & began teaching college at Villanova in 1990. Moved to Temple U in 1995, ran the university writing program, writing center, first year writing & taught undergrads & grads till I retired in 2019. I've published a number of books, poetry as well as writing/literacy studies. My book Writing Home: A Literacy Autobiography has a chapter on my time at Beloit.
